Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar says that President Donald Trump’s “obsession” with her and the Somali community is “creepy and unhealthy.”
On Tuesday, during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump said he did not want Somali immigrants in the U.S., saying residents of the war-ravaged eastern African country are too reliant on U.S. social safety net and add little to the United States.
Somalis have been coming to Minnesota and other states, often as refugees, since the 1990s.
Trump for years has criticized Omar, who emigrated from Somalia in 1995 as a child.
“We are not, and I am not, someone to be intimidated and we are not gonna be scapegoated. We are here we are here to stay,” Omar said.
