LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Archdiocese announced that it would be closing one of its West End parishes, due to low membership rates.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Louis Coleman Drive will close on Dec. 31.

The Archdiocese wrote in a press released that the parish had a significant drop in its number of parishioners in the past few years.

Parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary will be given to the care of St. Martin de Porres.

Additionally, with decline in the number of available priests, the archdiocese must assign them when possible to larger combined communities in order to preserve pastoral care for all people.

Immaculate Heart of Mary held its first mass in November of 1953.
