A 31-year-old Gaston County teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to prosecutors.

Victoria Lynn Powell, 31, of Grover was arrested Monday, Dec. 1, and charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child in the Nov. 1 incident.

Powell is a physical education teacher at Hunter Huss High School who was hired by Gaston County Schools in 2021, according to the school district. On Tuesday, Dec. 2, she was suspended with pay, the district said.

According to Assistant District Attorney Jason Meulemans, the allegations against Powell stem from a "teacher student relationship."

In addition to being a teacher, Powell is a church youth group leader, Meulemans said. He did not name the church.
