A pedestrian has life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle driven by an off-duty police officer in St. Catharines on Tuesday.
At about 9:45 a.m. officers responded to a crash in a plaza parking lot on the corner of Welland Avenue and Bunting Road , where an 85-year-old St. Catharines man had been struck.
The man was taken to a local hospital with injuries, Niagara Regional Police said in a news release.
The Niagara Regional Police officer who had been driving the vehicle was off duty at the time and remained at the scene after the collision.
To avoid a potential conflict of interest under the Community Safety and Policing Act, Hamilton police will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
