A Florida woman has been accused of fraudulently withdrawing money from a bank account belonging to a former Connecticut employee who continued receiving pension benefits years after she died.

Christina Richards, 41, faces one count of first-degree larceny for allegedly stealing nearly $98,000 in pension benefits, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice .

DCJ officials said the investigation was launched in April when the Connecticut Office of the State Comptroller referred a complaint to the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. The complaint alleged that monthly pension payments continued to be sent to the Fort Pierce, Florida, home of a Connecticut retiree despite her death in October 2021.
