A former Hamtramck police officer is suing the city, its lawyers, and the ex-police chief, alleging they violated his civil rights and whistleblower rights.
A civil complaint was filed Monday in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in Detroit by Allen Park attorney Gary Miotke on behalf of David Adamczyk. He is seeking $5 million in damages and legal costs.
Interim Hamtramck City Manager Alexander Lagrou was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday.
In his complaint, Adamczyk said he was fired for reporting then-Hamtramck Police Chief Jamiel Altaheri's alleged misconduct to the FBI, Michigan State Police, and city officials. He also claims he was fired for filing a whistleblower lawsuit against the city and Altaheri.
