WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - DPW crews are working to clear roads in western Massachusetts after the first snowstorm of the 2025 winter season.

The storm has prompted a Winter Storm Warning for Berkshire, Franklin, western Hampden, and Hampshire Counties, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for eastern Hampden and Hampshire Counties.

Trevor Wood, director of West Springfield DPW, noted that the department had prepared equipment months in advance but did not anticipate the severity of the snowfall.

Wood explained that the DPW typically has between 90 and 95 pieces of equipment out on the roads, but currently, only 80 are available.
