Twenty minutes before the YouTube livestream of the Chanel Metiers d’Art show was set to begin, 26-year old Elias Mendini stood on the stage at The Racket getting roasted.

To be fair, he kind of asked for it. The French fashion TikToker—better known by his alias, Lyas—had organized a watch party for Matthieu Blazy ’s second Chanel collection at the Chelsea concert venue, a free event he playfully dubbed as “La Watch Party.” Around 800 people had shown up, wearing knee high leather boots, faux furs, and face shielding sunglasses. But the fashion house wasn’t pressing play on their public broadcast until 8 p.m. At 7:40, there was some time to kill.
