BOONE, N.C. — A Samaritan’s Purse plane was hijacked by a gunman while enroute to South Sudan.

The hijacking happened Tuesday, December 2, on a small turboprop plane that had a Samaritan’s Purse pilot and one staff member, according to a spokesperson with the organization.

Officials say the Caravan aircraft was enroute to Maiwut, South Sudan, to deliver medicines to be used at the organization’s mobile medical unit.

The pilot was eventually able to land the plane in Wau, South Sudan, where the armed hijacker was taken into custody by the National Security Service of South Sudan, according to a statement from the organization.
