WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Triad crews are getting an early start on winter weather preparation. Ahead of a wintry mix expected Friday, NCDOT Division 9 in Forsyth County is mixing thousands of gallons of brine, loading trucks, and lining up plows to keep roads as safe as possible.
“It’s all about timing,” says Mark Crook, Division Maintenance Engineer. “If you're out and about tomorrow and you see our trucks operating, just give them a little extra room… they can't quite run at posted speed, so you'll see them in a little bit of a traffic delay.”
Brine is the first line of defense against icy roads, and Forsyth County is fully stocked for the season, with more than 12,000 tons of salt ready to go. Crews will work overnight with a minimal team, then bring in the full force during daylight hou
