HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - Sheriff’s departments on the Mississippi Gulf Coast are issuing a warning of an influx of scam callers pretending to be deputies.
Harrison County Sheriff’s Department (HCSD) and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD) are saying the scammers claim to work for the office and request money for various reasons.
Sheriff Matt Haley says HCSD has received multiple complaints about the calls this week.
Sheriff Haley said deputies will not request money over the phone or through electronic platforms.
“If you are contacted and need to verify information, please reach out to us, and do not send the requested money,” Haley said in a statement.
Sheriff Haley says if you received a scam call, you are urged to report it by calling 228-865-7060.
