You don't need to wear a work jacket for its intended purpose. (Largely, hands-on, outdoor , hard labor kind of work.) Regardless of what work you're doing in it, you should have one great work jacket in your arsenal. Its boxy, relaxed fit, pointed collar, and exterior pockets, make the classic work jacket is a versatile outerwear option that makes nearly any outfit look better. It's great for layering and for replacing a blazer in a casual office.
There are so many on the market that it really comes down to preference. Carhartt and Dickies make traditional, rugged work jackets that can take a good beating and look all the cooler. Rhythm, Alex Mill , and J.Crew have less rugged, more put together options that serve largely to elevate your fit.
