Local elementary students showed improvement in reading, writing and math last year. But they still generally achieve below provincial averages, new test scores show.
Ontario students also progressed last year. But Education Minister Paul Calandra is dissatisfied with this achievement.
“Yes, progress. Great. But not enough,” he told reporters Wednesday. “I was really taken aback by these results.”
He complained the pace of improvement is too slow, math skills remain weak, and learning gaps persist in some school boards, and for some student groups.
“This is simply not good enough,” said Calandra, who delayed releasing 2024-2025 test scores to dig deeper into them.
