With a president who is riddled with legal cases and more and more news surfacing about politicians being embroiled in crime , it has come to feel as though government is synonymous with controversy. As it goes, the democratic representative from Florida, Shelia Cherfilus-McCormick, was indicted in November 2025. Detailed in the indictment was a scandalous case of misused money and redirected FEMA relief funds from way back in 2021. Alleged in the investigation, after applying for $50,000 of relief assistance, an error on FEMA's side directed $5 million to the congresswoman, who, conspiring with her brother and chief of staff, filtered the funds through multiple accounts to disguise the cash flow.
