The same day Ravalli County Commissioners called for a slowdown on the Sheep Creek mine proposal, members of Montana’s Congressional delegation echoed the sentiment.

“Montana knows better than anyone there’s a right and wrong way to mine,” Republican Rep. Ryan Zinke said in a statement. “Fast tracking a mine with overwhelming public opposition and bypassing the mechanisms that allow for transparency and accountability is the wrong way to do it.”

Representatives from U.S. Critical Materials have said they want to conduct exploratory mining of rare earth minerals to see if a fullscale operation is feasible.
