WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Four bills aimed at cutting Florida property taxes are moving forward in the state Capitol, sparking debate between lawmakers seeking relief for homeowners and local governments warning of potential service cuts.
The push for property tax reform is gaining momentum as lawmakers argue that rising property taxes have become a growing burden on Florida homeowners.
State Rep. Toby Overdorf, R-Stuart, who chairs the committee overseeing the proposals, said the issue is paramount.
"This is a pressing issue. We want to put money back in the pockets of Floridians. ... That is our mission," Overdorf said.
