WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – A jury trial has been set for a man charged with first-degree murder and battery in connection to a shooting at a north Wichita liquor store on Labor Day.
A Sedgwick County judge denied an immunity motion on Wednesday for 23-year-old Jaime Medina, Jr., who was arraigned and pleaded guilty in the shooting .
The shooting happened around 2 p.m. on Labor Day outside a liquor store on East 29th Street North and North Broadway Avenue in Wichita. The shooting killed 19-year-old Mario Gonzalez and injured two others.
At the time, police said that Medina and a 46-year-old man were taken to a hospital in critical condition.
A retired Wichita police lieutenant saw a vehicle flee the scene and followed it, with the car eventually being stopped near the 800 block
