When billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott gave Whittier College $13 million, she topped her previous gift of $12 million, made in 2020.

And with that move, announced by the 138-year-old liberal arts college on Wednesday, it joins a select few institutions chosen to receive a second unrestricted multimillion gift by Scott, whose ex-husband is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The $13 million is the largest single gift in Whittier College’s history and serves as an extraordinary vote of confidence in the school’s mission and future, said President Kristine Dillon. They received word of the gift last month.
