The Reno City Council voted unanimously Wednesday, Dec. 3 to approve an ordinance recognizing the Luella Garvey House on Reno's Register of Historic Places.
The ordinance was presented after the city’s historical resources commission unanimously recommended the nomination in October.
The Garvey House, at 589-599 California Ave., was designed in 1934 by famed Black architect Paul Revere Williams , who also designed the Lear Theater .
The architectural style of the house falls under general Colonial Revival but includes French Regency details, which were signature elements of Williams' work at that time, according to the city staff report .
