SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - A new bill will go before the general assembly this coming session that could speed up the process for people with mental health concerns arrested for a crime.
State Representative Brian Seitz introduced House Bill 1677. In the bill, it would require a mental health evaluation of someone arrested where mental health concerns are a part of the concern and addressed within 45 days of arrest.
“Legislation calls for an individual to be seen within 45 days of their arrest so that we can determine what their mental health needs are they do not need to be housed for upwards of a year waiting to be evaluated we currently in our jail have seven people,” said State Rep. Seitz from Branson.
