MINNEAPOLIS — In the heart of the Somali American community in Cedar-Riverside on Wednesday, nothing looked visibly out of the ordinary at first glance.
However, with news of an ICE operation underway in the Twin Cities, business owners and residents in the heavily East African neighborhood described widespread feelings of anxiety, uncertainty and fear. Community leaders said they had reports of ICE activity throughout the day, both in Cedar-Riverside and across the city. However, it is unclear whether these enforcement actions led to any detainments.
One building in Cedar-Riverside posted a sign that read, No ICE Enter Without Court Order.
“This is a moment for Minnesotans to step up,” said Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of the Council of American-Islamic Relations Minnesota
