While it’s a considerably smaller hike than city officials originally proposed, the average Calgary homeowner can expect to pay another $4.50 monthly on their property taxes in 2026.
After eight days and more than 80 hours of deliberations that began Nov. 24 , city council voted 12-3 in support of its 2026 budget Wednesday afternoon.
Next year’s budget — the last in a four-year fiscal plan the previous council approved in November 2022 — will include a 1.64 per cent overall tax increase.
That’s down from a 3.6 per cent overall tax hike proposed by administration earlier this month, which included a 5.8 per cent average increase for homeowners and a 1.4 per cent increase for commercial property owners.
