A man is facing multiple charges after a brazen carjacking in southeast Calgary on Sunday evening that ended with a crash and a confrontation with responding firefighters.
At around 5:30 p.m., a man was dropping off his granddaughter in the community of Walden while his wife remained in the back seat of their vehicle.
Moments later, police say a suspect wearing a ski mask jumped into the car. The woman managed to escape as the vehicle sped off, narrowly missing the grandfather.
Just 15 minutes later, at 5:45 p.m., Calgary Fire Department crews were dispatched to a vehicle that had struck a power pole near Shawville Road and Shawville Blvd. SE. Police later confirmed it was the same vehicle stolen in Walden.
