CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WBTV) - A curfew for anyone under the age of 18 was unanimously passed by the Chesterfield City Council on Wednesday to help reduce crime.
Under the new curfew, which goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2026, it will prevent anyone under 18 from going out from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. seven days a week.
If anyone is caught out during those hours, they will be charged with a misdemeanor and could be fined up to $500 or face up to 30 days in jail, according to the ordinance.
There are exceptions to the curfew for anyone under 18, including those who are accompanied by a parent or guardian, attending a religious event, school, work, or an emergency.
