BURLINGTON, N.C. — Family members, friends and loved ones gathered Monday evening along Highway 62 for a balloon release honoring 16-year-old Naraya Benjamin, who was killed in a Thanksgiving morning car crash in Alamance County .
Red, white and gold balloons were released as relatives prayed and shared memories. Her family said the colors represent love, hope and triumph.
Naraya’s cousin, Genesis Potts, said she stood out in their family from an early age and was known for her humor and kindness. Potts said Naraya was loving, funny and smart, and someone who made people around her feel special.
Family members described Naraya as quiet, kind and goofy, someone who liked to make others laugh. They said she loved dancing, joking around and making TikTok videos with her cousins.
