The Prince William County School Board is expected to vote Wednesday night whether to increase the teacher workday by 30 minutes without any adjustment to compensation.

The change would impact every public school teacher in the county, extending their shifts from seven hours to seven-and-a-half hours.

“Adding 30 minutes to the teacher workday without additional pay is, in effect, a pay cut," said one teacher testified at a School Board meeting the week before Thanksgiving.

The proposal has drawn the attention and opposition from the statewide education association that represents K-12 educators.
