The union representing workers at a soon-to-be shuttered Crown Royal plant in southwestern Ontario has ratified a closure agreement with the company to “secure the best possible outcome for our members.”

Diageo’s Crown Royal plant in Amherstburg, south of Windsor, is scheduled to cease operations in February after the company said in August that it planned to shift some bottling to the U.S., a move that angered Premier Doug Ford at the time .

“We fought hard to keep the jobs here,” Unifor president Lana Payne said in a Tuesday news release . “This is not the outcome we wanted, but in the end we acted to secure the best possible outcome for our members while they still had the protection of their collective agreement.”
