The first day of the early signing period brought some unexpected drama for Michigan’s football program.

Three of the Wolverines’ 28 commits in the 2026 recruiting class remain unsigned heading into Thursday. Two of the delays are a surprise and involve centerpieces of the class. Mineral (Va.) Louisa Country five-star running back Savion Hiter didn’t put pen to paper Wednesday because of “minor contractual details,” according to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong.

Earlier in the day, message boards conveyed a sense of anxiety and panic over possibly losing a five-star talent. Optimism remains high Michigan will get Hiter in the fold, but there is more uncertainty around the other two recruitments.
