Pittsburghers can expect to laugh at “YIPPEE KI YAY: The Parody Celebration of Die Hard.” But the show, opening Downtown this week, isn’t just a comedy — it has also provoked tears.

In his one-man performance about the 1988 action/thriller that pits New York City cop John McClane against Hans Gruber’s band of terrorists, Richard Marsh wanted to pull at what it truly means to be a fan of the film.
Peeling back the layers of his own experience, the British actor/writer found that “Die Hard” acts as an anchor to the decades of change in his own life. The parody was appropriately dubbed “Yippee Ki Yay” after McClane’s famous line.
