John Leonard scored a pair of goals Wednesday, including the game-winner, and the Grand Rapids Griffins continued to roll with a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Monsters at Van Andel Arena.
The Griffins improved to 17-1-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL), good for an AHL-high 35 points and a league-best .921 points percentage. They are 10-1 at home.
Leonard snapped a 1-1 tie at 15:02 of the second period and capped the scoring with an empty-net shorthanded goal with 1:32 remaining in the third period. He leads the AHL with 17 goals and 26 points.
Sebastian Cossa made 30 saves to improve to 9-1-0.
The Monsters led 1-0 after one period on Tate Singleton’s goal.
Antti Tuomisto tied it at 2:01 of the second period. Austin Watson stretched the Griffins’ lead to 3-1 at 2:00 of the third period.
