RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. (WMTV) - A group of Richland Center residents is raising concerns after the city sold Stori Field — a 5.5-acre piece of longtime public green space — to a private developer for $1, saying the transfer happened before residents had the chance to complete a petition that could force a public referendum.
The land, known widely in the neighborhood as Stori Field, has served for decades as an informal park, a sledding hill, a former high school practice field and a place generations of families grew up around.
“This is where I played ball, practiced football. Yeah, we did it all here,” said Mark Syftestad, who grew up near the field.
Others say the space remains actively used even without formal programming.
