SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 17-year-old boy was killed after a possible handmade firework malfunctioned in South Los Angeles, police said.
The deadly incident just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on W. 84 Street near Figueroa, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud blast come from a home a seeing smoke rising from the backyard. Initial reports also suggested that someone was allegedly on fire.
Officers and fire crews responded to the scene and rushed the teenager to the hospital with severe injuries. He later died.
Some neighbors say they had seen the teen handling and setting off fireworks in the past.
