COLUMBIA — Abortion advocates are calling for the removal of an anti-abortion group from a popular Midlands fundraising platform, saying the group’s leader crossed a line of violence when he allegedly shot a man outside the Planned Parenthood clinic in November.
The nonprofit Palmetto State Abortion Fund is asking organizers of the Midlands Gives fundraising campaign to block A Moment of Hope from future events after its director, Mark Baumgartner, was reportedly involved in the Nov. 14 shooting.
Baumgartner has been charged with felony assault and weapon offenses. The man injured in the shooting, an incident captured on video , was hospitalized but has since been released.
