A close affiliate of a West Virginia Economic Development Authority-backed partner in a federally supported regional hydrogen energy hub has filed for bankruptcy, adding to growing uncertainty regarding the hub’s prospects.
Empire Diversified Energy Inc. and Empire Trimodal Terminal LLC were sued in federal court on Nov. 18 by Kansas City, Missouri-headquartered UMB Bank, which has accused the Follansbee, Brooke County-based companies of breach of contract, seeking a judgment of at least $25.6 million against them.
