St. Bernard Church to make modern use of old cemetery in Akron

St. Bernard Cemetery is landlocked on South Maple Street in Akron.

There is no more space available for burials. The only way to go is up.

The cemetery is the final resting place for more than 2,400 parishioners of St. Bernard Catholic Church . German immigrants founded the parish in 1861 and established the cemetery a couple of years later. The twin-towered church at 44 University Ave. was completed in 1905.
