All eyes were on King Charles III and Queen Camilla as they welcomed the German President and First Lady to a state banquet at Windsor Castle on Wednesday night.
The state banquet is among the most glittering occasions in any calendar as it gives royal women an opportunity to step out in their finest tiaras. Certainly that was the case for Queen Camilla, who chose on of Queen Elizabeth II's favourite pieces for the occasion.
Believed to be among the late Queen’s favourite diadems, and possibly the most recognisable of them all, is the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. In fact, it is seen everyday on English coins and banknotes, and was worn in her official accession photographs in 1952. Since then, she wore it more frequently for royal duties than any of her other jewels.
