The dawn of the robotaxi could be upon us, as self-driving vehicles could be on our roads as soon as next year.

Live trials are set to start in a few months, giving us a glimpse at how the cars will operate on UK roads.

Transport Minister Simon Lightwood wrote a statement in Parliament, saying these autonomous vehicles could unlock economic growth.

He added road safety and improving accessibility remain central to the plan for autonomous vehicles to be on UK roads.

The Labour Party government has previously estimated that the self-driving industry could create 38,000 jobs and add £42billion to the economy by 2035.
