On common sense
No doubt that your comment in the lead editorial on Nov. 25--"If you can't read, you can't learn in other subjects. It's the key to the whole kingdom."--qualifies for a "duh" or at least the understatement of the century. Education is the base-building block of everything, and reading is the base-building block of education. So logical, I think.
Speaking of logic, how about this one? Why not hire teachers that can teach reading as opposed to the need of tutors for about everyone? (Tutors for some will always be a good suggestion and a wise financial investment.) Of course, that's what school districts say they do, hire these type teachers. But if after some time it appears that these teachers somehow are unsuccessful in accomplishing the stated goal, then maybe hire anoth
