In early November, I attended the American Public Health Association's Annual Meeting with my retired public health professional husband. Thousands of public health experts, researchers, professionals and students were present.

Unlike those attending the meeting, the director of our federal health agencies too often denies scientific evidence, instead spouting absurd claims (with occasional deadly outcomes, as we see from increasing cases of the measles, a once vanishingly rare disease thanks to vaccines). It was comforting to be among people actually focusing on solid public health research and its connection to making Americans healthier.
