If you think food at the grocery store is expensive now, brace yourself for next year.
Canada’s Food Price Report is out and it predicts a significant increase in how much we pay.
Several universities authored the report which projects an increase of 4-6 per cent in food prices. The average family of four will be spend $17,571 on food next year, an increase of almost a thousand dollars from this year.
To put that into context, food prices are 27 per cent higher now than they were five years ago.
The price of beef has soared this year with a 19 per cent increase in the first quarter alone but import partnerships with Mexico and Australia have helped stabilize the cost.
Customer demand for chicken has increased due to the cost of beef, and that means chicken prices will rise substantial
