Taxpayers will fund the WASPI women campaign's £180,000 of legal costs. The WASPI campaign said the Labour Party government had virtually “backed down at the court steps”.
After the Ombudsman report ruled WASPI women had suffered an injustice, the Labour Pary government and DWP originally refused £10.5bn in payouts. But DWP boss Pat McFadden announced last month that the decision would be revisited in light of new evidence.
Now Angela Madden, chairman of Waspi, said the £180,000 showed the Labour Party and DWP had “backed down”. Ms Madden said: “By failing to take the decision in light of the proper information, they have cost taxpayers money without actually delivering justice for Waspi women.
