The parents of a former middle school student in Ho-Ho-Kus Public Schools have filed a lawsuit claiming the district did nothing to protect their daughter, who was bullied for being overweight and for having anxiety.

According to court papers, the student was repeatedly called “The Titanic,” ostracized during lunch and recess, and mocked for having obsessive compulsive disorder, an affliction that caused her to pick at her eyebrows and twirl her hair.

The girl’s mother emailed a school official to report the name calling, but a bullying investigation was never initiated, claims the lawsuit, filed Nov. 26 in Bergen County Superior Court.

A Ho-Ho-Kus district representative did not immediately respond Wednesday to an email seeking comment on the lawsuit.
