Justin Siguencia's family moved to the United States in search of a better life.
And 22-year-old Siguencia helped them fulfill that, they said, graduating with honors in economics this year from the University of Michigan, going on to work as a financial analyst for BNY.
Justin's bright future was cut short on Wednesday, Nov. 26, the night before Thanksgiving, when he was run over by two vehicles on the FDR Drive in New York City, the NYPD said.
Justin's sudden death has left his family heartbroken.
"As the first generation of an immigrant family [from Ecuador], Justin carried with him his family’s dreams, hopes, and determination with extraordinary grace and pride," his obituary on the Nazare Memorial Home website reads. "A young man of exceptional character, he was known for his loving, kind, and humble heart.
"Justin’s academic excellence was matched only by his humility, generosity, and unwavering commitment to those around him. He was an exemplary son, grandson, brother, cousin, and friend—deeply devoted to his family, who loved him immensely. Joyful and full of life, he enjoyed sports with his family and was always ready to help anyone in need. His work ethic, warmth, and generous spirit touched all who knew him."
Justin is survived by his parents, Manuel Siguencia and Greis Ochoa; younger brother, James Siguencia; paternal grandmother Zoila Calle, his maternal grandparents, Ruben Ochoa and Gloria Calle; as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Segundo Siguencia.
