SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. —

A South Carolina Department of Transportation committee has unanimously approved a resolution to remove former Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright's name from a highway sign.

The move comes after Wright's guilty plea to multiple felony counts related to a public corruption scheme.

Highway 29 in Spartanburg, from I-85 to the Greer city limits, was named and dedicated to Wright in 2018 .

With the committee's decision, staff will begin to remove all signs and markers commemorating Wright on the highway.

Wright has not been sentenced.
