A devastating addiction storyline involving Mercedes McQueen is set to play out in upcoming Hollyoaks scenes.

In recent episodes of the Channel Four soap , it became clear that Diane Hutchinson and Gemma Johnson knew that Mercedes was the one who shot Tony Hutchinson on his wedding day.

Gemma and Diane are out for blood and plan to get Mercedes hooked on anxiety medication to leave her "in ruins", as Gemma so bluntly put it.

Mercedes received a threatening blackmail note, penned by Diane, which demanded £50,000 or everyone will know that it was she who shot Tony .

Meanwhile, Gemma has been giving Mercedes pills, and this week, we saw Mercedes meet up with Ste Hay and mix the anxiety pills with alcohol, causing Ste to relapse .
