CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Mannington man is facing a felony child abuse charge after allegedly striking his 10-year-old son in the head outside a convenience store in October, according to a criminal complaint filed in Harrison County Magistrate Court.

James Michael Swiger, 28, was charged with child abuse resulting in injury.

The complaint states that Swiger, who is the biological father and a person in a position of trust to the child, unlawfully and intentionally abused the minor child, identified only by the initials N.S., causing bodily injury.

The incident allegedly took place Oct. 9 in Harrison County.

Details in the complaint, prepared by Sergeant-Detective A.C. Vernon, are based on surveillance footage, statements from N.S. and a sibling witness, and medical documentation.
