Every year, more than 1,300 people in America die in crashes driving on snowy or slushy roads and more than 116,800 people are injured.
In 2023 alone, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reported 320 fatal traffic crashes and an estimated 22,293 injury crashes related to snow and sleet conditions.
“Preparing yourself — and your vehicle — for winter weather is key,” the agency warns.
NHTSA cautions drivers to know the basics of driving in the snow, how to be prepared for an emergency and what to look out for on your vehicle to optimize safety all-season long.
