U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy gave a preview Thursday of the upcoming World Cup draw, where President Trump and others will be in attendance as the teams and locations for games are announced.
"Tomorrow is going to be a great day at the Kennedy Center. President Trump is going to be there. Thousands of people are going to be in attendance. But around the world, a billion people are going to tune in to watch the draw at the Kennedy Center," Duffy said.
Former U.S. soccer player Cobi Jones, reflected on his playing days in 1994, when his team advanced to the Round of 16. World Cup 2026 would dwarf that event, Jones said.
"In 1994, for those of you that know, it was a special moment. The whole world's eyes were upon us, but then the United States, everyone got on board and participated and helped out that U.S. team make a special run. Well in this World Cup, we have double the amount of teams as in 1994," Jones told those in attendance.
The tournament is hosted by three nations, with the United States joined by Mexico and Canada.
