BROOKLYN — US. REP. DAN GOLDMAN, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto and Rep. Delia Ramirez on Wednesday introduced the Upholding Protections for Unaccompanied Children Act, a bill reversing provisions in the GOP’s “Big Beautiful Bill” that impose steep immigration fees on unaccompanied minors applying for asylum, including those fleeing violence or trafficking.

The lawmakers said the Republican-backed fees – including a $5,000 “Border Apprehension Fee,” mandatory asylum fees, and sharply increased court costs – block children from seeking protection and put children at risk of rapid deportation without due process.

The bill exempts minors from all of the bill’s fees, repeals funding for summary deportations and invasive exams, and restores anti-trafficking safeguards.
