Tucked in a corner of her real estate office in Nogales, Nanci Pottinger proudly displays a few black-and-white photos of her family. Her grandmother holding her father as a toddler, her grandfather posing with President John F. Kennedy, and another of her grandpa in his suit and fedora.

In the center of the display hangs a much more public yet significant part of her family’s past and Santa Cruz County history: the first edition of the Nogales International, dated May 25, 1925. ×
